Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (GSLC) is seeking a full-time Director of Music & Worship  to develop vibrant, grace-filled worship experiences that include both contemporary and traditional music. This role collaborates closely with pastors, staff, and volunteer teams to plan and lead services that engage our congregation both in-person and online.

What We’re Looking For:

An adaptable and collaborative leader who:

  • Demonstrates strong musical skill — proficient in sightreading, playing, and vocally leading across a range of styles, at both contemporary and traditional services.
  • Can respond in real time to service needs (e.g., extending songs, adapting transitions).
  • Has a working knowledge of sound, video, and worship production technology — or a strong willingness and aptitude to learn.
  • Values excellence and authenticity in worship, with a heart for helping others experience God’s presence through music.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, lead, and coordinate music for five weekly worship services, aligned with the liturgical calendar, seasonal themes and service styles.
  • Lead the technical and musical aspects of special worship events including weddings and funerals.
  • Recruit, mentor, and support musicians, vocalists, choirs, and tech teams.
  • Oversee audio/video systems, soundboard mixing, and online service production.
  • Collaborate with pastors and staff to ensure seamless integration of music and technology.
  • Supervise worship staff and volunteers.
  • Manage music library and resources.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Vocal and instrumental musical ability to include performance, leadership, and accompaniment on piano/keyboard (guitar or other instruments a plus).
  • Comfortable leading and adapting live worship.
  • Basic understanding of sound mixing, worship tech, or high willingness to learn.

Preferred:

  • Experience in church music leadership.
  • Familiarity with worship software, lighting, audio/video editing tools, and music notation software.
  • Bachelor's degree in music or related field.

Who You Are:

  • A spiritually grounded, team-oriented leader with appreciation of the Bible, Lutheran theology, and people.
  • Passionate about creating meaningful worship.
  • Open to a variety of musical styles and expressions.
  • Willing to grow in both musical and technical areas.

About the Role:

  • Full-time position with flexible schedule to accommodate services, rehearsals, and special events.
  • Eligible for full benefits. Reports to the Senior Pastor.
